Hello! My name is Daniel (Mihretu) Dessalegne. I love taking a person-centered approach to counseling, while providing psychoeducation and interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I'm also becoming more curious about using art as a way of self-expression for clients who are interested.
I have worked with individuals, couples, and families of different cultural backgrounds and ethnicities, and have experience supporting people through anxiety, depression, trauma, relational conflicts, and grief. I love working with clients as young as 11–18, as well as young adults up into their 30s, though my experience has exceeded this range and I am happy to work with any age group.
In 2015, I graduated from George Fox University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. In 2019, I graduated from George Fox University's Graduate School of Counseling with a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), licensed in the State of Oregon.
Life has taught me that what you believe shapes your path, whether those beliefs are true or not. Because of this, I believe that knowing the truth about your own life is critical and essential to living a truly fulfilling life.
As your therapist, I am honored and eager to join you in your journey of self-discovery. I believe it is essential to visit the past to see how it has affected your view of the present, so that we can intentionally adjust it toward a future that accurately reflects your worth and purpose.
I love writing songs and making music. I fell in love with the piano when I was 9, and not too long ago got into singing and playing the guitar. Music has been a huge part of my life. I don't know where I would be without it.
